The True Cost, directed by Andrew Morgan, invites the audiences to see a flesh side of fashion industry. The documentary examines the actors of fashion industry on the relation of destructive impacts of fast fashion with globalization.
The global companies create fast fashion to sell cheap, disposable and accordingly more in number products to the masses. Correspondingly, the companies which benefit from power of advertisements and propaganda, impose on consumption culture to individuals via mass media. The production and expenditure of fast fashion products are the problematic areas of this issue. The global companies with billions of annual profits, ignore workers’ human life rights, while producing their products in third world countries with cheap labor power. There are the environmental hazard of textile wastes, the chemicals of genetically modified cotton and environmental and individual dangers of leather production behind the glamorous life of fashion industry in front of the cameras.
